2012 Green Car of the Year Finalists Revealed

Green Car Journal announced its five finalists for the 2012 Green Car of the Year award. These include:
2012 Ford Focus Electric
2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas
2012 Mitsubishi i
2012 Toyota Prius v
2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI
The Green Car of the Year award recognizes vehicles that become available by January 1 of the award year.
The 2012 Honda Civic was recognized for it’s ability to burn natural gas a which is of course one of the Earth’s cleanest-burning fossil fuel.
The 2012 Volkswagon Passat is recieving great gas mileage with numbers such as:
2.5L 170-hp engine, 31 mpg highway
3.6L 280-hp engine, 28 mpg highway
2.0L TDI Clean Diesel, 43 mpg highway
The 2012 Toyota Prius v is for gas-conscious shoppers who need a lot of space. This wagon is based on the Prius hatchback, and offers similar fuel efficiency and 60 percent more cargo capacity. 
The 2012 Mitsubishi i is an  all-electric sedan that has been rated at a 126 miles per gallon equivilent in city, 99 highway mpg equivalent on the highway. That’s better than Nissan’s all-electric Volt and way better than cars that have backup gas engine.
The 2012 Ford Focus Electric is the second mass-market all-electric car. To charge the Focus Electric you can use the 120-volt power outlets you find in your home, or you can purchase a 240-volt charging unit that Ford hopes to make available through Best Buy. With the 120-volt outlet charging can take 18 to 20 hours or just three to four hours with the 240-volt unit.
