Audi Plans to Make Video Game Car Concept a Reality

Audi Plans to Make Video Game Car Concept a RealityMore than two decades ago, Sony Computer Entertainment released the very first Gran Turismo video game for the original PlayStation. Since then, there have been six other primary Gran Turismo games released for PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Portable, and almost 80 million Gran Turismo games have been sold worldwide.

Many gamers have fallen in love with the Gran Turismo series, and a big part of that has to do with the concept cars that they’re able to drive in them.

Thanks to Audi, gamers may soon have an opportunity to see a Gran Turismo concept car take a spin off the virtual track.

The Audi E-Tron Vision Gran Turismo was originally created as a car for the latest Gran Turismo Sport game made for PlayStation 4. Over the course of 11 months, however, developers who took part in what is called the Vision Gran Turismo program found a way to turn the Audi concept car into a reality. The vehicle looks and feel just like the one from the video game, and according to Audi, it will be capable of going from 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds.

Unfortunately, Audi will not be releasing the car in any sort of official capacity, but they are showing the car off in Rome ahead of the Formula E race that’s set to take place in the Italian city. Professional race car drivers Rahel Frey and Dindo Capello will get behind the wheel and show Gran Turismo fans what the concept car can really do. The car will also be making appearances at several other European Formula E electric car races in the near future.

It’s amazing to see what a big impact a game like Gran Turismo has had on the world, and those who have been playing the game for years now will likely be blown away by what the Audi concept car looks like now that it’s a real thing.
