Polestar, Volvo’s performance electric brand, just released details on their first car model: the Polestar 1.
The Polestar 1 is the first model to be released from Polestar’s new performance electric brand and was debuted in Shanghai in early October. Polestar has been working to become more independent from Volvo, with the support of Volvo, starting with producing electric performance cars.
The Polestar 1 is expected to be released in 2019, with three more models expected to surface as well. The Polestar 1 is a sporty hybrid GT with 600 horsepower, two doors, and two electric motors. It has been described as “sleek,” matching the expected appearance of a performance-based car with 93 miles of all electric-range. The car is relatively short in length and has limited seating space, creating the overall appearance of a true sport car.
The car also comes equipped with an “Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension” allowing drivers to change suspension settings in order to adjust to conditions for an easier ride. It is also made from plenty of carbon fiber to reduce the overall weight and center of gravity to help with performance.
Volvo had previously been a parent company of Polestar but the two are changing their relationship . Polestar is going to test and push technology on Volvo’s behalf and Volvo is going to help produce Polestar cars in order to get the company started.
As of right now, it’s not clear what the price of the Polestar 1 will be. However, the company has stated that they will be offering a subscription model payment on the vehicle as Volvo is doing for certain models.
